English Spelling Charts

This page has been specifically been set up to hold spelling charts that people can download for themselves:

 

1.  The first one deals with some of the basic understandings of the spelling of the sound /a/ is in cat.  I refer to this on this following video clip: Perception in English Spelling 1A

Here is the link to the download.   As I said on the clip, there are at least 10 distinct observations you can make by looking at the words on this chart.

    I think I found all 10.  I did note the importance of having several examples to help reinforce the pattern first, then note or discover the exception.

    Great stuff.  What’s interesting is that a good speller in English must have learnt most or all of these when s/he was growing up.  Most of these patterns are not taught at school (in fact, some students were never taught any of them!), so they were learnt on the run, as it were. Aren’t people amazing!
